A telltale sign has emerged that suggests the repainting project, restoring the castle to its classic blue and gold color scheme, could be kicking off within weeks! For those unfamiliar, every morning, Magic Kingdom guests are treated to the heartwarming "Let the Magic Begin" show. Mickey, Minnie, and a host of other beloved characters emerge from the castle to officially welcome everyone to a day of enchantment. This performance is usually a daily staple, reliably scheduled for 8:55 am, and prominently displayed on the official Walt Disney World calendar. And this is the part most people miss: a significant change in that calendar could be the biggest clue yet. Starting Wednesday, January 28th, the "Let the Magic Begin" show vanishes from the schedule entirely! As of now, the calendar is only updated through March 18th, leaving a performance-sized hole in the mornings. What does this mean? It strongly suggests Disney anticipates needing access to the castle's forecourt, likely for scaffolding and painting equipment, rendering the daily performance impossible.
This absence strongly hints that the castle's makeover to its original blue and gold look is about to begin. To prepare, Disney has already released a complete merchandise collection showcasing the new color scheme, a beautiful collection of blue and gold castle-themed items available for purchase. This all points to the imminent repainting.
But let’s rewind a bit for context. The Cinderella Castle we see today hasn't always looked this way. Originally, it featured shades of gray with light blue turrets. Then, for Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary in 2020 and 2021, it received a vibrant makeover, sporting royal blue turrets, a different gray hue on the lower half, pale pink on the upper half, and even more gold trim.
In the summer of 2025, Disney announced their intention to revert the castle back to its classic color palette. They later clarified that the painting would commence in January 2026, with an estimated completion date sometime later in the year.
