A new report suggests that AEW's Powerhouse Hobbs is on the verge of leaving the company for WWE. The report, released on Wednesday, indicates that Hobbs' contract is set to expire at midnight, and despite ongoing negotiations and a substantial offer to stay, he is expected to depart. This news comes just days after Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE was highly interested in signing Hobbs.
According to Fightful Select, Hobbs, along with Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata, will defend the AEW Trios titles against Hangman Page and JetSpeed in tonight's post-Dynamite Collision taping. However, unless something changes, the 35-year-old Hobbs is likely to join WWE as a free agent, potentially as early as this week. The report also mentions that Hobbs is leaving on good terms, having tested the free agent market.
Hobbs made his AEW debut in July 2020 and has been a prominent figure since, holding the Trios titles for nearly 300 days and also having a brief run with the TNT title in 2023.
