In a recent episode of 'The View', Sunny Hostin did not hold back in her criticism of podcaster Joe Rogan. This comes after Rogan expressed his disapproval of ICE's actions following the tragic shooting of Renee Nicole Good, an American citizen, in Minneapolis. He likened the agency's behavior to that of the "Gestapo," a remark that raised eyebrows given Rogan's previous support for Donald Trump and his hardline immigration policies.
While some of Hostin's co-hosts applauded Rogan for his newfound stance against Trump's administration, Hostin took a more critical approach. "Joe Rogan got the country he voted for. He has a staggering 20 million followers and is incredibly influential. By endorsing Donald Trump during the last election, he wielded a lot of power, which carries significant responsibility. I believe he has mismanaged that influence," she stated, clearly emphasizing the weight of responsibility that comes with such a large platform.
Joy Behar, another panel member, countered Hostin's critique by expressing her appreciation for Rogan's criticisms of both Trump and ICE. However, Hostin remained steadfast in her belief that Rogan hasn’t truly changed his perspective. She pointed out, "During that same podcast, he mentioned, ‘I see both perspectives.’ He referred to a conspiracy theory suggesting that there were illegal programs bringing people in to manipulate elections, which is simply not true."
When Behar suggested that Rogan's situation was similar to that of controversial former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, Hostin agreed but highlighted that they share different implications. "Yes, she remains unchanged, just like Rogan."
Behar further defended Rogan by invoking the adage, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Yet, Hostin dismissed this notion, insisting on the seriousness of the political climate. "This past election was exceedingly critical. We warned people about Project 2025 and what could transpire. Donald Trump made it clear he intended to act as a dictator."
Towards the end of the discussion, Hostin also condemned Trump for making an obscene gesture towards an automotive worker who labeled him a 'pedophile protector.' She remarked, "Can you imagine if President Obama had done something like that? He faced backlash for wearing a tan suit! This man is the least presidential figure we have seen in our lives."
